Speed

A Shopify speed optimization agency,on a fixed three-day scope.

Developly runs a three-day speed pass on your Shopify store: a baseline, the heaviest images, fonts and blocking scripts fixed, an audit of which apps to remove, and a before-and-after report. It does not promise a score, because your theme sets the ceiling.

What we fix

What does a Shopify speed agency actually fix?

Four things account for nearly all of it: unprocessed images, apps (including ones you removed), fonts, and theme JavaScript that runs before anything is visible. Three of the four are removal.

01

Images that were never processed

A hero exported straight from Figma or a photographer is routinely two megabytes where the same image at the same quality is a hundred and eighty kilobytes as WebP. Plenty of themes also ask for one size and let the browser scale it, so a phone downloads the desktop asset.

02

Apps, including the ones you removed

Every app that injects a script costs you on every page load. Uninstalling an app does not always remove its script, because the theme edit made during installation stays behind. A store that has tried fifteen apps over three years is often still loading four of them.

03

Fonts that block the first paint

A custom webfont holds text back until it arrives unless it is told not to. Self-hosting, subsetting to the characters in use and swapping in a fallback fixes every page with one change.

04

Theme JavaScript that runs before anything is visible

Sliders, mega-menus, currency switchers and sticky headers tend to initialise on load whether or not the visitor is near them. Together they are why a product page can take 400 milliseconds to answer its first tap.

The long version, with how to find each one yourself in DevTools: why your Shopify store is slow, what page weight is and where it sits and how apps get their scripts onto your page.

Timeline

How long does it take?

Three days, as a fixed scope, once the work is agreed. Every store is different, so we scope it on a short call or chat and send a fixed quote first.

01

Lab and field baseline

Measured on the best-selling product page, on mobile and desktop, against LCP under 2.5 seconds, INP under 200 milliseconds and CLS under 0.1. The headline PageSpeed number comes last.

02

Images, fonts and blocking scripts

The heaviest images first, then fonts, then the scripts that stop the page painting. The highest-impact, lowest-risk work goes ahead of anything that touches the cart.

03

App audit: what to remove

A list of every app script on the page, what each one costs you, and what we would remove. Three of the four fixes are removal, which is why this is the part most stores have been putting off.

04

Before-and-after report

The same measurements taken again, side by side, so the change is read from numbers rather than eyeballed.

Scope

What is not included?

Four things, written down before you sign. The full list for every service, and what each one excludes, is on the services page.

A guaranteed score

The theme sets the ceiling. A theme that renders the whole mega-menu into the first HTML, or ships one CSS bundle for every template, has a floor no speed pass can get under. Anyone promising a number before looking at your theme has not looked at your theme.

Redesign or layout change

This pass makes the store you have faster. It does not change how it looks or is laid out. A new theme is a different engagement, the Figma → Shopify build or the full store build.

Removing apps you keep

The audit tells you what each app costs. Whether the app is worth that cost is your call, and we do not strip a feature you rely on.

Headless front ends

Moving the storefront off Shopify’s theme layer is a different project and is quoted separately.

Questions

Before you book:the score, the apps, the theme.

Six questions about the speed pass, answered here.

Do you guarantee a PageSpeed score?
No, and the scope says so in writing. The theme sets the ceiling, and a number promised before anyone has looked at your theme is a guess. What is promised is the work: the baseline, the fixes, the app audit and a before-and-after report.
Which numbers do you judge speed by?
LCP under 2.5 seconds, INP under 200 milliseconds and CLS under 0.1, measured on your best-selling product page on mobile. They describe what a buyer experiences. The headline PageSpeed score is a weighted summary of them, and chasing it tends to move the summary rather than the page.
Will you remove my apps?
We audit them and list what we would remove and what each one costs you in speed. Removing apps you choose to keep is outside the scope. Scripts from apps you no longer use are the cheapest win there is, and they are pure removal.
Can I do this myself first?
Yes, and for many stores it is the right first step. Finding the three heaviest images, the scripts from apps you no longer use and the font loading takes an afternoon, and it captures most of the available gain. Paying for it makes sense when the delay is costing more than the fee, when the fix has moved into theme JavaScript where a mistake breaks the cart, or when you want the before and after measured properly.
What if the theme itself is the problem?
Then the honest answer is a new theme, not a faster version of the old one, and nobody should sell you a guaranteed score on a theme they have not seen. The Figma → Shopify build ships with a speed budget from the start: LCP under 2.5 seconds, INP 200 milliseconds, CLS 0.1.
How do I know if speed is my biggest problem?
Start with a Store Teardown. Speed is one section of it, set against the buying paths on the same store, with five fixes ranked by revenue impact and delivered in five days. If you then start an engagement within thirty days, the fee comes off it in full.
